Saxon B67A Roller Brake Tester - MOT Class 4, 3, 2 & 1

Serious reliability issues have caused FGES LTD to discontinue the sale of the Saxon B67A roller brake tester.

If you are thinking about purchasing this product or becoming a distributor, we strongly urge you to view the photographs below.

A number of fellow former distributors have confirmed that extraordinary failures such as broken roller shafts are not uncommon. They also agree that SAXON Prüftechnik GmbH show a general lack of interest and seem unwilling to accept or rectify the shortcomings of the design.

We have conclusive, undeniable proof that these problems have occurred throughout the UK with a number of suppliers and installation agents.

Thankfully, our personal experience has been limited by the relatively small numbers we installed before problems became apparent. However, broken and sheered roller shafts, burned out motors, burned out motor contactors and a seized gearbox are amongst the significant failures we have seen.

On nearly every occasion, SAXON Pruftechnik GmbH have refused to honour the 12 month warranty period leaving us to stand the cost.

During a meeting with Thomas Maul, Saxon's Managing Director, we suggested a number of very simple, inexpensive improvements. In spite of the damming photographic evidence, Mr. Maul maintained an arrogant refusal to consider, investigate or accept the shortcomings of the design and the poor quality of manufacturing.

Saxon claim: "Our company maintains a complete quality management"  but this is clearly not the case. The images below speak for themselves. We were astounded by Mr. Maul's complete lack of concern. These obvious, undeniable problems have been dismissed without consideration.

We were promised a swift response to a detailed report of failures and repairs submitted in April 2008 - we have received no response of any kind since. Warranty claims dating from September 2007 to present remain unpaid.

Saxon have also marketed this roller set via different manufacturers and under different names with the same record of poor reliability.

We value our customers and refuse to conspire with manufacturers who operate in this manner.

Saxon garage equipment has been alternatively know as and associated with Maul & Co, Pruftechnik GmbH, Seppeler and Junkalor equipment.

In 30 years, we have not known a brake tester roller to break or sheer in this manner.

There was an occasion In the 1980s when a bright spark drove a JCB across a brake tester -  but on that occasion the shafts bent but didn't break as they have here.

Close examination reveals multiple surface imperfections and deep scoring at the break point.

This is the shaft of a replacement roller sent by SAXON Prüftechnik GmbH for which we were charged! Inspite of the machine being in warranty, the spare parts would not be released without payment up front!

As you can see, the steel has multiple imperfections. Is this just confined to the surface?

This time SAXON remembered to machine a key-way into the shaft. Last time they didn't and refused to cover the cost of the additional precision cutting required.

On this occasion, the shaft has broken at the bearing.

Closer examination shows that the shaft has broken in a delta shape - exactly at the points where the grub screws grip the shaft.

The grub screw "dimples" have been machined far too deeply and have caused the steel to become severely weakened.

In this example, the shaft appears to have twisted off "as if it were made of plastic."

Refurbished Saxon Brake Tester Motor Gearbox

This time we're installing a motor and gearbox. Motor had burned out, gearbox had seized.
